Gospels
The Gospels relate the birth, life and redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ when He was here on earth. Catholic Epistles
The word catholic means universal/general, therefore, the Catholic Epistles are also known as general epistles. They were written in the first 100 years of the Church, dating from the first century after Christ.
They are letters that were written by the Apostle John, the Apostle Peter, Jude and James. Of these four, only John and Peter were with Christ until the moment of his resurrection and ascension. James and Jude were blood brothers of Christ, but were not with Him in His ministry.
There are seven letters in total: The epistle of James, 1st and 2nd of Peter, 1st, 2nd and 3rd of John, and the epistle of Jude. They are considered general epistles because they are not destined to a specific Church, as Paul’s letters were, but they were of general diffusion in the scattered Church of those times.
